I was talking to someone on the phone and mentioned that I had shaved Daphne. The response was, "What did you do to that poor sweet little dog???" The term shaving is a misconception. Any time you put a blade on a dog's coat it is considered shaving them. In her case, her haircut removed all the fuzzy mess on her sides, but I left the feathering and britches. Daphne is a long-haired dachshund and I wanted to preserve that look but neaten it all up.... especially with all the rain we have been having.
Phoebe is such a sweet girl. She has special needs now that she's gotten older but from day one she's always been such a pleasure to groom. Our client's dogs aren't just clients to us, they become part of our family. Regardless of the fact that they aren't mine, I still claim a piece of them anyway.
HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE! My dear, beloved Journey. I will miss you forever. You took a piece of my heart with you when you left.
Look at those bright little eyes! She enjoyed her first haircut! She is a Chipompoo x yorkie. I'm not sure what you'd name that other that cute and sweet as can be!!!
Socializing your dog is very important for their mental well-being as well as helping them to become a good pet that can go with you more places. Some people say they can't take their dogs anywhere because of their bad behavior. Truthfully, training is only part of the problem. Exposure to more places and things helps them become less reactive and calmer to the the new things they see. And by the way... WE SUPPORT THE BRANDON BULLDOG ATHLETICS!!!
Even if your dog doesn't need a haircut every 6 weeks, you should still maintain their coat. At some point my options for grooming your dog are limited to one- shaving and starting over. It is not my preference to shave a dog down if that's not what the owner wants and I'm certainly not quick to suggest it. Bathing and brushing / dematting becomes impossible though, and your dog will likely have skin irritation, sores or problems with the hair regrowing properly once it has gone this far.
Christi and Keturah have been long-time friends and training partners. We won't tell you how old this photo is. Let's just say it is a blast from the past!
